UK chart toppers that have gone down and then go back up!
It’s not unusual(!) for a UK chart topper to drop down and then go back to the top in one chart run. The most recent examples include:
Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello – “Señorita”
Number one for a week in July 2019. Dropped to No.2 then went back to No.1 for five weeks.
Ariana Grande – “7 Rings”
No.1 for three weeks in January 2019, dropped to No.2 then went back to the top for a week in February.
Calvin Harris and Sam Smith – “Promises”
No.1 for five weeks in September 2018, went down to No.2 and back up for a week in October.
George Ezra – “Shotgun”
He was No.1 for two weeks in July 2018, then rested for a bit and went back to the top in late-August for another two weeks!
Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee featuring Justin Bieber – “Despacito”
Was No.1 for six weeks in May/June 2017, went down and back up two weeks later for three weeks, went down again and…back up again for two more weeks in August!
There are many other examples less often than more recent times.
Shakira did it in 2006 with “Hips Don’t Lie”
Eric Prydz in 2004 with “Call On Me”
Celine Dion did in 1998 with “My Heart Will Go On”.
