‘My Mad Fat Diary’
“Set in Stamford, Lincolnshire in the mid-1990s, My Mad Fat Diary follows the story of 16-year-old, 16 stone girl, Rae Earl, who has just left a psychiatric hospital, where she has spent four months. She begins to reconnect with her best friend, Chloe, who is unaware of Rae’s mental health and body image problems, believing she was in France for the past four months. Rae attempts to keep this information from her while also trying to impress Chloe’s friends Finn, Archie, Izzy and Chop”
I watched this when it was first aired and I loved it then. I am currently re-watching it for the third time and it’s just as great as ever.
If you were a teenager in the late 90s then I guarantee you will enjoy this. Especially if you were a big fan of BritPop!
The show deals with some hard hitting stuff but it has a nice mix of dark and more light-hearted stuff. It’s well worth a watch!
The theme song is ‘One To Another’ by The Charlatans.
There is, of course, a lot of BritPop songs and Oasis fo feature a lot which is a good thing! Here’s one of my favourites…
