When was the first time the whole top five on the UK singles chart were all new entry’s?
We are used to high new entry’s on the UK singles chart in modern times, but it wasn’t always like that. Very few songs entered so high up and even fewer went straight in at number one. But the week commencing 25th October 1998 was the first time the entire UK top five were all new entry’s. They were:
1. Cher – “Believe”
2. George Michael – “Outside”
3. U2 – “Sweetest Thing”
4. Culture Club – “I Just Wanna Be Loved”
5. Alanis Morissette – “Thank U”
