What was the number one song in the UK on 1st August 1970?
It’s been a while since we’ve seen him on these here pages, but Elvis is back with The Wonder of You, which was number one for 6 weeks.
Ray Peterson originally released this song as a single back in 1959, but it’s this live version by Elvis that was a real success. Elvis recorded this version in Las Vegas in February 1970 and was released 2 months later. It’s his fifth best-selling single in the UK and was one that he would regularly perform in concert. It is classic Elvis, but much like most of his songs- I can take it or leave it. Of course, if you’re an Elvis fan, it will no doubt be a firm favourite.
Lyrics
When no one else can understand me
When everything I do is wrong
You give me hope and consolation
You give me strenght to carry onAnd you’re always there
To lend a hand
In everything I do
That’s the wonder, the wonder of youAnd when you smile, the world is brighter
You touch my hand and I’m a king
Your love for me is worth a fortune
Your love for me is everythingAnd I’ll never know
The reason why
You love me as you do
That’s the wonder, the wonder of youI guess I’ll never know
The reason why
You love me as you do
That’s the wonder, the wonder of you
