The song, “Hang On In There Baby”, was originally recorded by Johnny Bristol in 1974
Singer and songwriter Johnny Bristol (1939-2004) wrote and recorded his debut single, “Hang On In There Baby”, for his first album of the same title in 1974. It was released in June that year and made No.3 in the UK and No.8 on the US singles chart, whilst peaking at No.2 on the US Soul chart and No.3 in Canada.
The song has been recorded by a number of other artists including Gary Barlow for his debut album, “Open Road”, in 1997 but the only commercial release has so far come from 80’s ‘boy band’ Curiosity Killed The Cat – rebranded ‘Curiosity’ – in 1992. It was their comeback song after three years away and reached No.3 in the UK.
But whose version is the best? JOHNNY’s original or CURIOSITY’s cover?
