German singer Marius Lauber calls himself Roosevelt and he’s been making solid, ever popular tracks for a decade now. He has joined forces with none other than Disco legend Nile Rodgers for his latest project.
Featuring Nile’s signature guitar licks, Roosevelt’s new single “Passion” is fueled by the disco era and uninhibited joy of places like Studio 54 where people came together to be brought to life by music.
Written by Marius (aka Roosevelt) along with Nile’s assistance on guitar, the song was truly a dream come true for Marius. While cutting his teeth for years touring around the world, collaborating with acts like Washed Out, and remixing artists like Rhye, Glass Animals, Chvrches and Charlotte Gainsbourg, Roosevelt has become one of the most buzzed-about new voices in electronic music.
“Passion” follows on from the release of his 2021 album “Polydans”, a highly acclaimed album which served as a love letter to electronic music and was inspired by the interconnectivity found on the dancefloor. Now he takes this idea a step forward via a truly mind-blowing collaboration with music legend (and one of his personal idols) Nile Rodgers, co-founder of Chic and songwriter/producer for artists like Bowie, Sister Sledge, Madonna, Duran Duran and many others over his near 50 year career.
While working on “Polydans”, Marius took the expertise he learned on the road and brought it back to his roots: a combination of playing multiple instruments in numerous bands during his adolescence followed by his time spent DJing at intimate clubs around London, Berlin, Lisbon and more. He craved the chance to recapture the energy and essence of those moments of sonic connection, where passion and excitement are woven into the intimate nuances of the genre, and the physical relationship between the DJ and those on the dancefloor.
“Polydans” was a chart hit across much of mainland Europe and was the follow up to his 2018 second long player, “Young Romance”. Make sure you check out his awesome single from 2020, “Feels Right”, a highlight so far and a favourite of us here at talkaboutpopmusic.com. “Passion” is supported by an animated video that screams Disco era with a nod the the late 90’s early 00’s style of video for a funky, electro tune. The video has been created by https://www.meroestudio.tv/ and at times feels like Battle Of The Planets meets Studio Ghibli. Slick and stylish, “Passion” should see Roosevelt break out onto a more global stage and raise awareness of her sheer talent and creative mind towards music in the 21st century.
