New Hope Club say…”Whatever”!
Brit-Pop
It’s been two years since we started tracking British band New Hope Club, but recently the three lads have started releasing new tunes following their debut album of 2020.
Their latest is “Whatever”, written and performed by Blake, George and Reece, and it showcases the band’s extraordinary musical evolution and most searing, honest lyrics about relationships.
This new era also marks Blake’s debut as a producer, developed under the band’s mentorship with multi-Platinum, award-winning US producer and songwriter Ross Golan (5 Seconds of Summer, Maroon 5).
“Whatever” is a Summery break-up bop evoking the grooves of Earth, Wind & Fire tempered with the band’s laid-back delivery. The pointed lyrics sit somewhere between the exhale of letting go and the bitterness of its resolution. They sing, “You’re still wearing my T-shirt, but with some other guy, ‘cause it shows off your features. Does he know that it’s mine?”.
Following the release of their self-titled UK Top 5 charting debut album, the band returned with the singles “Girl Who Does Both” and “Getting Better” earlier this year – both have achieved over 3 million combined streams so far. The singles earned praise from the Official Charts, describing it as “brimming with self-assurance and the confidence of musicians transitioned from teens to young men”.
Having written and performed together since their teens – and all still only 22-years old – New Hope Club is starting a new chapter with greater clarity on their creative purpose. Inspired by great British bands they grew up listening to like The Beatles, The Stone Roses and Oasis; but there are magic touches of classic pop sounds all over a treasure trove of new music. Blake, George and Reece are making music that resonates, whether they write about relationships, transitioning into adulthood, or simply to spark joy.
