25 years ago, in 1997, the Spice Girls scored their second Christmas number one in the UK with “Too Much”. The track was the second single to come from their second album, “Spiceworld” and followed in the footsteps of “2 Become 1”, which had been number one exactly twelve months earlier.
To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the album, the Spice ‘Girls’ have just released an ‘alternative version’ of the song, which is much more stark in production and focuses mainly on the orchestration and their vocals. “Spiceworld” has recently been re-issued in expanded form with mixes and live concert tracks as one complete thesis of this period in their career.
This is the second version of “Too Much” to have been released in the space of a year. Spice girl Mel C (Sporty Spice) released an acoustic version of the song in 2021 with just her own vocals recorded with a piano and a guitar in a very ‘uncooked’ state, shedding a different light on this already soulful tune.
