Briefly, actor Adam Rickett enhanced his stardom by releasing some songs. So why didn’t it carry on and breathe some more?
Cheshire born actor, model and singer Adam Rickett came to fame at an early age via Cosmopolitan and Attitude magazines to the long-running soap opera Coronation Street. Born in 1978, Adam was 18 when he landed the part of Nicky Tilsley in 1997 but quickly became something of a heartthrob and a pin up of the show. Having spent two years in the role, he left in 1999 and signed a deal with Polydor Records to pursue a career as a pop star. His debut single, “I Breathe Again”, was written and produced by Julian Gingell, who had worked with the likes of Kylie, Sophie Ellis-Bextor and S Club 7. The song was a hit and peaked at No.5 in the UK gaining a Silver certification for sales of 200,000 copies.
The follow up to “I Breathe Again”, “Everything My Heart Desires”, preceded the release of his first album of a six album deal he had signed. “Everything My Heart Desires” was a more moderate charting single reaching No.15 at the beginning of October 1999 with the album itself, “Good Times”, following two weeks later. But the writing was already on the wall and after such a promising start, “Good Times” was anything but and flopped, stalling at No.41 and quickly disappearing. One more single, “The Best Thing”, followed in early 2000 and made it as far as No.25. Polydor was not impressed and without any attempt to help or work on a second album, dropped poor Adam and brought an abrupt end to his singing career. Rickett returned to acting making occasional appearances in half a dozen drama series as well as returning to ‘Corrie’ in 2002 and again 2003-04 as Nicky.
Adam has been a pantomime regular and often does the rounds each Christmas in productions ranging from Cinderella to Jack and The Beanstalk. He joined the Conservative Party in 2005 with aspirations of becoming an MP, but this was quickly trampled on. He briefly revived his music career in 2010 when he released the single “Tonight”, but this did nothing. He returned to the soaps in 2017 when he began a three year run in Hollyoaks. Following a drink driving ban in 2020, Adam has kept a low profile. Probably for the best.
