The O'Jays i love music

COVER vs ORIGINAL: ‘I Love Music’

The song, “I Love Music”, was originally recorded by The O’Jays in 1975

Songwriters and producers Kenneth Gamble (b.1943) and Leon Huff (b,1942) worked with American trio The O’Jays on the song “I Love Music”, which was recorded by the group for the album “Family Reunion”. The track was released as the lead single in October 1975 and topped the US R&B chart and made No.5 on the singles chart. The tarck was a chart hit around the world including the UK, where it peaked at No.13.

Surprisingly, there have been few recorded and ever fewer cover versions released as singles since, but the most notable came from Zambia-born Dance singer Rozalla in 1994, which would eventually find its way onto her second studio album “Look No Further” in 1995. Her version was a big Club and Dance hit across Europe, Canada and America, where it peaked at No.1 on the Club chart and No.76 on the singles chart. Rozalla’s “I Love Music” was a top ten hit on the UK Dance chart and reached No.18 on the singles chart in January 1994.

But which version is the best? THE O’JAYS original or ROZALLA’s cover?
