THEN & NOW: Depeche Mode

It’s been six years since their last studio material, “Spirit”, but Depeche Mode are back with a new, yet classic sounding track, “Ghosts Again”, which comes from their brand new album, “Memento Mori”. This new era marks a bittersweet return for the much loved band, now fronted by Dave Gahan and Martin Gore with the sad and unexpected loss of founder member Andrew Fletcher late last year.

‘Fletch’ along with Gore and Vince Clarke had founded ‘The Mode’ in 1980 with singer Gahan joining later that same year. Andy was present for their breakout “Speak And Spell” album of 1981 and the two follow ups “A Broken Flame” in 1982 and “Construction Time Again” in 1983, which featured one of their greatest and most memorable hits, “Everything Counts”, a UK No.6 hit.

The late 80’s and early 80’s saw ‘The Mode’ take on the world with their superb “Violator” album, which was a massive hit in America and followed this with the “Songs Of Faith And Devotion” album of 1993, which would achieve a number one chart peak on both sides of the Atlantic, while the lead single, “I Feel You”, put the group in the top ten in over twenty countries globally.
