COVER vs ORIGINAL: ‘Love On A Mountain Top’

The song, “Love On A Mountain Top”, was originally recorded by Robert Knight in 1968

“Love On A Mountain Top” was written by James ‘Buzz’ Cason (b.1939) and McGavock “Mac” Gayden (b.1941) – the same team behind “Everlasting Love” – and originally recorded and released by American singer Robert Knight (1940-2017) in 1968. The track was not an instant hit either at home or internationally and it was not until 1974 that it saw commercial success when it hit No.10 in the UK.

“Love On A Mountain Top” was covered by singer Sinitta in 1989 and recorded for her second studio album, “Wicked”. Produced by Phil Harding and Ian Curnow, it was released as the second single in September and peaked at No.20 in the UK this time, spending five weeks in the top 40. It would become her last top twenty hit on her home territory. The song was a minor hit in Australia as well as charting in Ireland and Finland.

But which version is the best? ROBERT KNIGHT’s original or SINITTA’s cover?
