It’s been eleven years since their last studio album of new material, but British group Dexys (strangely shortened from their iconic and best known title of Dexys Midnight Runners) are back with a new song and a new album on the horizon. “I’m Going To Get Free” is the brand new single, in the style of classic Dexys tunes from the early 1980’s.
“I’m Going To Get Free” is the first single from the band since 2016’s “Grazing In The Grass” and the first from their upcoming seventh album, “The Feminine Divine”. The album follows hot on the heals of 2022’s live shows that included a spot at her late Majesty’s Platinum jubilee in June, which also coincided with the 40th anniversary of the release of their album “Too-Rye-Ay” and their biggest and best known hit single, “Come On Eileen“, which we featured in original, intended form at the time.
“The Feminine Divine” is produced once again by Pete Schwier, along with acclaimed session musician and producer Toby Chapman. After taking some time out to refocus his energy, lead singer Kevin Rowland came back to music with a fresh perspective and new-found positivity. A personal, if not strictly autobiographical, record portraying a man whose views have evolved over time. Not just on women, but the whole concept of masculinity he had been raised with an education and an un-learning that is traced across the arc of “The Feminine Divine” with dizzying effect.
