Tina turner disco inferno

COVER vs ORIGINAL: ‘Disco Inferno’

The song, “Disco Inferno”, was originally recorded by The Trammps in 1976

Leroy Green wrote the song “Disco Inferno” along with Ron Kersey (1949-2005) of American group The Trammps for their fourth studio album of the same name. The title track was released as a single at the end of December 1976 and made it to No.53 in early 1977 in America and No.16 in the UK. A year later, the song recharted at No.11 in the US and No.47 in the UK, where it holds a Silver certification for sales of 200,000 copies.

“Disco Inferno” was covered by Tina Turner for the soundtrack album of her 1993 biopic ‘What’s Love Got To Do With It?’ and it was released as the second single, following “I Don’t Wanna Fight”, in August. Tina took her version to No.12 in the UK, its highest position yet, while the song was also a hit across mainland Europe. Cyndi Lauper also recorded a version for the soundtrack of the 1998 film ‘A Night At The Roxbury’. It was released as a single in 1999 and went to No.8 on the US Club chart.

But which version is the best? THE TRAMMPS’ original or TINA’s cover?
