UK Top 40 Singles Chart for Sunday 6th June 1993
So this was the chart that Radio 1 DJ Bruno Brookes broadcast from 4pm-7pm with data from the GALLUP computer based on record sales from Monday 31st May to Saturday 5th June 1993.
This is how the charts USED to look with new entries, climbers and non-movers, all based solely on record purchases. This week, thirty years ago, there were eleven new entrys, seven climbers and two non-movers! And it was announced like this…
40. Lenny Kravitz – “Believe” The latest from Lenny Kravitz remains in the UK top 40 for a fourth week but goes down nine places as be believe a little less.
39. Whitney Houston – “I Have Nothing” And Whitney will soon have nothing as her third hit of this year drops eleven places. This one has lasted double the time of Lenny’s, eight weeks.
38. Snow – “Informer” lasting fourteen weeks, so far, is Snow’s debut. He continues to inform us of that but three places lower than he was this time last week.
37. Q featuring Tracy Ackerman – “Get Here” Q’s version of Brenda Russell and Oleta Adams‘ “Get Here” goes up two places in week two, along with singer Tracy Ackerman who does the honours this time.
36. David Bowie featuring Al B Sure – “Black Tie, White Noise” David Bowie comes back with our first new entry this week and it’s with the title track of his new album that follows “Jump They Say” into the top 40.
35. Mica Paris – “I Wanna Hold On To You” There’s no holding on for Mica Paris‘ new entry from last week as seven days on finds it down eight places. Her new album is out tomorrow, however!
34. Mother – “All Funked Up” Jools Brettle and Lee Fisher arrive on the top 40 for the very first time today. This is their debut single under the banner of Mother and a new entry.
33. Monie Love – “In A Word Or 2” Someone who made their debut back in 1989 was Monie Love. She’s back with her latest, which is the follow up to “Born 2 Breed” earlier this year.
32. Tasmin Archer – “Lords Of The New Church” The latest from former chart topper Tasmin Archer goes down six places. This is the third single to come from her number one debut album, “Great Expectations”.
31. Stereo MC’s – “Creation” And sliding twelve places in their third week are the Stereo MC’s with their fourth top twenty hit in a row, which is so no longer.
30. Bryan Ferry – “Will You Love Me Tomorrow?” The latest cover from Bryan Ferry is down seven places this week. His new album features songs previously recorded by The Hollies, The Velvet Underground and Elvis Presley.
29. Cliff Richard – “Human Work Of Art” Cliff is back with a new entry and another track from his brand new album called, wait for it…”The Album”! This is the follow up to “Peace In Our Time”.
28. Manic Street Preachers – “From Despair To Where” The Manic Street Preachers also get a new entry with a brand new track that will be the first from their upcoming new album due out later this month.
27. Tears For Fears – “Break It Down Again” After just one week in, Tears For Fears depart the top twenty, down seven places with their brand new track. Their new album is out tomorrow!
26. Shabba Ranks and Maxi Priest – “Housecall” The first of the 1992 singles back in the top 40 this year is the one from Shabba Ranks and Maxi Priest, they go down nine places this week.
25. Sister Sledge – “Thinking Of You ’93” Sister Sledge are back with another remix of a former hit that follows “We Are Family” and “Lost In Music”. This one was originally a No.11 hit in 1984.
24. The Time Frequency – “The Power Zone” (EP) The Time Frequency are back for a second time and this time enter much higher than they did the first time with another EP of songs.
23. The Jungle Book – “The Jungle Book Groove” “The Jungle Book Groove” swings out of the top twenty this week and further down the tree trunk, seven branches lower!
22. Bon Jovi – “In These Arms” The latest single from Bon Jovi’s album ” Keep The Faith” also leaves the upper half of the UK top 40, and also down seven places.
21. Sade – “No Ordinary Love” The second single from 1992 this week is from Sade, who go higher still with their re-issue, up three places following their re-entry this time last week.
20. REM – “Everybody Hurts” This song is proving to be REM’s best seller here in the UK. Nine weeks on and they are still top twenty, but down six places.
19. a-ha – “Dark Is The Night” Coming back to the top twenty this week are a-ha with their brand new track, which climbs three places. It’s the band’s thirteenth to make it this far.
18. Therapy – “Face The Strange” (EP) With their last EP giving them their very first top ten hit, Therapy come back with a second extended play, which enters a little bit further down.
17. Janet Jackson – “That’s The Way Love Goes” Down seven, that’s the way Janet Jackson‘s latest goes. The lead single from her new album “Janet” leaves the top ten this week.
16. George Michael, Lisa Stansfield and Queen – “Five Live” (EP) As do George Michael, Lisa Stansfield and Queen with their collection of Queen songs. The former chart topper falls ten places.
15. House Of Pain – “Jump Around” The third song from 1992 to come back this year is the one from House Of Pain and they slips just four places this week.
14. Tina Turner – “I Don’t Wanna Fight” The film about Tina Turner called ‘What’s Love Got To Do With It?” hits the cinema’s this Summer. This is the first song from the soundtrack album and it’s down five places.
13. Chaka Demus and Pliers – “Tease Me” New music time now and there’s a big new entry and a chart debut for Jamaican duo Chaka Demus and Pliers with their debut international single release. The pair released their first single in America last year.
12. Jamiroquai – “Blow Your Mind” The new single from Jamiroquai landed on the chart last week, but seven days on and they fail to blow anyone’s mind with a non-mover.
11. 2 Unlimited – “Tribal Dance” Just dropping out of the top ten this week are 2 Unlimited with the follow up to “No Limit”, which is down three places.
10. Snap – “Do You see The Light?” Two new ones in the top ten this week and Snap are the first with the follow up to their three week number two hit “Exterminate”.
9. Lisa Stansfield – “In All The Right Places” While Lisa Stansfield moves into the top ten with her new single that goes up four places. The song comes from a new film, ‘Indecent Proposal’ that is scored by John Barry, who also wrote this song.
8. Louchie Lou and Michie One – “Shout (It Out)” Last week’s highest climbers were Louchie Lou and Michie One with their debut hit, which slips down one place a week later.
7. Pet Shop Boys – “Can You Forgive Her?” They make way for this week’s highest new entry and it’s a welcome return for the Pet Shop Boys with brand new music and a new album currently in production. This is Chris and Neil’s first top ten hit since their double A side in early 1991.
6. Haddaway – “What Is Love?” Just above them is this week’s highest climber from Haddaway, who made his debut on the top 40 last week and goes up twelve places in his second.
5. Green Jelly – “Three Little Pigs” Last week’s highest new entry was this chart debut from American band Green Jelly, but seven days on and they can’t seem to go much further as they stick in the same spot.
4. Inner Circle – “Sweat (A La La La La Long)” Inner Circle have been doing that for the last three weeks but they free themselves up at last and drop down one place.
3. The Spin Doctors – “Two Princes” …making way for The Spin Doctors to move into the top three with their second UK top 40 single that goes up one to number three.
2. Ace Of Base – “All That She Wants” We have a new number one as Ace Of Base go down one place having spent three weeks on top with their UK chart debut.
1. UB40 – “I Can’t Help Falling In Love With You” So we find UB40 go up one to take the prize for the biggest seller of all this week with their cover of this Elvis song from 1961 which takes the song back to the top of the UK singles chart, 32 years after the original did! But can they keep it for a second, or will The Spin Doctors, Haddaway or someone else take it from them? There’s only one way to find out…
