WHERE ARE THEY NOW? Kelle Bryan

Kelle Bryan thought she would be Eternal forever, that was until she was higher than heaven(!)

London born singer Kelle Bryan (b.1975) was the youngest member of the all girl group Eternal when they formed in 1993. As a foursome, they achieved four top ten singles and a million-selling debut album. With the departure of Louise Nurding in 1995, Eternal continued as a trio, notching up more top ten hits, one of which, “I Wanna Be The Only One”, topped the chart in 1997, and three more multi-Platinum selling albums. But when the internal temperature within the group became too hot, Kelle departed and pursuded a solo career of her own. She signed to Mercury Records and in 1999, she released her debut single, “Higher Than Heaven”.

Unknown to many at the time, Kelle had been diagnosed with Lupus, an autoimmune disease in which the body’s immune system attacked healthy tissue, and this would have dire consequences on her career. “Higher Than Heaven” would peak at No.14 but the follow up, “I Wanna Know”, failed to chart in 2000. Kelle had begun recording her debut album, which carried the title “Breakfast In Bed”, but this remains incomplete and unreleased as Kelle abandoned her career to focus on her health. She would remain out of the spotlight for some six years and returned, reinvented as an actress and TV presenter. Kelle has appeared on Celebrity Love Island (2006) and in 2018 she began playing the part of Martine Deveraux in the soap opera, Hollyoaks. Running concurrently with this, Kelle has been a regular panalist on the daytime chat show Loose Women.

In June 2023, Kelle made her return to music supporting mate and fellow Eternalonian Louise as she promoted her “Greatest Hits” album. Kelle joined Louise on stage to perform the Eternal single “Crazy” (December 1994, UK No.15) much to the delight of the assembled crowd. So has this fuelled Kelle’s own passion to return to music? Only time will tell…!
