Romain Tranchart and Yann Destagnol formed the French musical duo Modjo in 1999 and released their debut single the following year. “Lady (Hear Me Tonight)” was an instanst smash, topping Dance charts across the globe, and becoming their biggest and best known tune.
23 years later and fellow French producer Allure (aka Lorris Piasco) has updated the track with his own production using the vocals of the original song and giving it a fresh sound but losing none of the attraction of Modjo’s chart topper from 2000.
It’s the latest in a line of ‘updated’ early 00’s classics that also includes Stardust’s “Music Sounds Better With You” and Daft Punk’s “Something About Us”.
“Lady (Hear Me Tonight)” was a huge commercial success going to No.1 on the UK singles and Dance charts as well as topping the US Club chart and making No.81 on the single sales chart. It was a top five success all across Europe and was the first of four hits from Modjo’s self-titled debut album, before the duo split in 2003.
