UK Top 40 Singles Chart for Sunday 27th June 1993

So this was the chart that Radio 1 DJ Bruno Brookes broadcast from 4pm-7pm with data from the GALLUP computer based on record sales from Monday 21st to Saturday 26th June 1993.

This is how the charts USED to look with new entries, climbers and non-movers, all based solely on record purchases.
This week, thirty years ago, there were thirteen new entrys, ten climbers and one non-mover! And it was announced like this…

40. Jamiroquai – “Blow Your Mind”
Jamiroquai get to blow your mind for one more week in the top 40 as their latest falls fourteen places after five weeks on.

39. RuPaul – “Supermodel (You Better Work)”
Our first new entry is a chart debut for ‘model’ and entertainer RuPaul, better known as RuPaul Andre Charles. This song was released back home last November.

38. Moby – “I Feel It”
Coming back for a second go at a UK top 40 hit is producer and DJ, Moby. This is his first of 1993 and follows on from his debut last year with “Hymn”.

37. SWV – “Weak”
Meanwhile, SWV show signs of weakness in their second week on the chart as the follow up to “I’m So Into You” drops four places.

36. Gloria Estefan – “Mi Tierra”
Gloria Estefan is back this time with something new and not from her recent “Greatest Hits” album, this time it’s the title track of a new Spanish language album.

35. Tina Turner – “I Don’t Wanna Fight”
Tina Turner doesn’t wanna fight no more and so falls thirteen places with her latest, seven weeks on the chart for her this time.

34. Aerosmith – “Eat The Rich”
Aerosmith follow up their first top twenty hit for four years with this new entry and the second single to come from their current album called “Get A Grip”.

33. Niamh Kavanagh – “In Your Eyes”
As Ireland’s winner of this years Eurovision Song Contest, Niamh Kavanagh, goes down nine places with her winning entry.

32. Alexander O’Neal – “In The Middle”
Alexander O’Neal released his new album a few months ago, it’s called “Love Makes No Sense” and it features one UK chart hit with the title track. Here comes number two!

31. The Smashing Pumpkins – “Cherub Rock”
We welcome American band The Smashing Pumpkins to the UK top 40 for the very first time this week with the lead single from their upcoming second studio album, due out next month.

30. Billy Idol – “Shock To The System”
Billy Idol made his chart comeback last week after three years away with this new song and he goes up four places with it in week two.

29. Coverdale Page – “Take Me For A Little While”
Coverdale Page is the new musical partnership of Whitesnake’s David Coverdale and Led Zeppelins’ Jimmy Page. They have got together for a new album and this is the lead single from it.

28. Pet Shop Boys – “Can You Forgive Her?”
With four weeks on the chart, the Pet Shop Boys sink fourteen places with their brand new single with more to come before their new album later this year.

27. Louchie Lou and Michie One – “Shout (It Out)”
Louchie Lou and Michie One shout it out but outside the top twenty as they go down nine places and leave the upper half of the chart for the very first time.

26. Sting – “Fields Of Gold”
Also down and out is Sting with his latest which falls seven places. His album “Ten Summoners Tales” is now Platinum certified.

25. Taylor Dayne – “Can’t Get Enough of Your Love”
It’s been a while since we last saw Taylor Dayne in the UK top 40, five years in fact since “Prove Your Love”, but she’s back and it’s with a cover of a Barry White number from 1974.

24. Shabba Ranks and Queen Latifah – “What’cha Gonna Do?”
The partnership of Shabba Ranks and Queen Latifah came onto the chart last week but seven days later and they fall three places.

23. Deborah Harry – “I Can See Clearly”
It’s been four years since we last saw Blondie’s Deborah Harry on the chart on her own with “I Want That Man” but she is back with something new and a new solo album too on the way.

22. New Order – “Ruined In A Day”
New Order had no regrets about going top five a few months ago, so now they follow that up with this track from their current album, which is a new entry today.

21. Sade – “No Ordinary Love”
Just slipping out of the top twenty are Sade with the re-issue of their single from last year, thanks to the film ‘Indecent Proposal’. They are down four places.

20. 4 Non Blondes – “What’s Up?”
There is a big UK chart debut next for American band 4 Non Blondes as they bring their UK top three hit to the UK. Can they equal that here…?

19. Evolution – “Everybody Dance”
Coming back for a second hit are Evolution and this time it’s much bigger than their debut, “Love Thing”, was back in March.

18. Green Jelly – “Three Little Pigs”
Green Jelly and their little pigs are down six places this week. The track comes from their second studio album, “Cereal Killer Soundtrack”.

17. The Time Frequency – “The Power Zone” (EP)
There is some good new for The Time Frequency this week as their non-mover from last week gets a move on and goes up three places!

16. Joey Lawrence – “Nothin’ My Love Can’t Fix”
Doing much better than that is this week’s highest climber from US teen heartthrob Joey Lawrence, who rockets up sixteen places with his first UK hit single.

15. Snap – “Do You See The Light?”
Snap continue to see the light and also fall only a couple of places, just as they have been doing for three weeks now.

14. Terence Trent D’Arby and Des’ree – “Delicate”
While continuing their climb of the chart are Terence Trent D’Arby and Des’ree as their duet goes up just one this week.

13. Jade – “I Wanna Love You”
Jade made their debut back in March with “Don’t Walk Away” and they come back with the follow up, which was actually their debut single in America, and it’s also this week’s highest here!

12. Inner Circle – “Sweat (A La La La La Long)”
Inner Circle sweat it out no more in the top ten as they exit, down two places, with one of the year’s biggest sellers.

11. East 17 – “West End Girls”
Going up five places are East 17 with their cover of the Pet Shop Boys debut number one hit from 1986, and they will want another top ten hit this time next week.

10. Lisa Stansfield – “In All The Right Places”
Here’s the other song from the film ‘Indecent Proposal’ and last week Lisa Stansfield went back up the chart but comes back down two places to where she was three weeks ago.

9. Ace Of Base – “All That She Wants”
The former number one from Ace Of Base goes down five this week. The song has been about for nine weeks now and all of them in the top ten.

8. The Spin Doctors – “Two Princes”
The Spin Doctors make it two months on the top 40 this week and six of those have been in the top ten. This week they fall three places.

7. M People – “One Night In Heaven”
The brand new single from M People arrived last week and seven days on they go up two to make this their highest charting yet!

6. Gloria Gaynor – “I Will Survive ’93”
Gloria Gaynor returns to the UK top ten for the first time in many years with the remix of perhaps her best known tune, which climbs five places.

5. Rod Stewart – “Have I Told You Lately…?”
While last week’s highest new entry came from Rod Stewart with his version of this track from Van Morrison, which he takes two places higher.

4. Chaka Demus and Pliers – “Tease Me”
Some better news for Chaka Demus and Pliers with their debut chart hit, which finally moves into the top five after three weeks of trying and is also two places higher!

3. UB40 – “I Can’t Help Falling In Love With You”
The former chart topper from UB40 goes down one this week, one of three songs from film on the top 40 this week, this one is from ‘Sliver’.

2. Haddaway – “What Is Love?”
They make way for chart newcomer Haddaway with his debut single, which goes up one and it could be that we’re all asking the same question next week if he goes any further.

1. Gabrielle – “Dreams”
For this week it’s Britain’s Gabrielle that remains top for a second week with her debut single But can she make it three in a row, or will Haddaway or perhaps Chaka Demus and Pliers put an end to her dreams for now? There’s only one way to find out…
