Baby D wanted to take you higher in 1994. But how high did they go?
British dance act Baby D formed in 1987 with Phil Fearon of Galaxy and producer Floyd Dyce, along with artists Claudio Galdez, Terry Jones and ‘Baby D’ herself, Dee Galdes. They spent a number of years playing clubs before Dyce wrote the song “Let Me Be Your Fantasy” in 1992. The song was finally released commercially in November 1994 and went to the top of the UK singles chart as well as being a number one dance chart hit around the world. By then, Dyce had already left the group to pursue other adventures but the remaining trio continued and in 1995 with a cover of The Korgies 1980 hit “Everybody’s Got To Learn Sometime”, which Baby D took to No.3 in the UK, two places higher than the original.
Their “Everybody’s Got To Learn Sometime (I Need Your Loving)”was another hit across Europe and again topped a number of dance charts. The group released their debut and to date their only album, in 1996. “Deliverance” would go top five in the UK and produced another top three hit on the singles chart with “So Pure” in early 96. Following one further single (“Take Me To Heaven”, UK No.15), Baby D turned away from chart success and went off to do their own things. Dee herself would marry Phil Fearon, while their biggest and best know hit came back in 2000 with a new remix that took it to No.16. Baby D regrouped in 2008 to perform a number of Dance festivals and continue to do so around the UK and further afield.
Dee and Phil are parents and have recently become grandparents while both pop up from time to time at various 80’s and 90’s gigs. Terry Jones went on to become a successful songwriter, penning hits for Peter Andre, Eternal and the Backstreet Boys to name a few, while Floyd Dyce has his own record label and continues to produce and promote new acts.
