UK Top 40 Singles Chart for Sunday 11th July 1993

So this was the chart that Radio 1 DJ Bruno Brookes broadcast from 4pm-7pm with data from the GALLUP computer based on record sales from Monday 5th to Saturday 10th July 1993.

This is how the charts USED to look with new entries, climbers and non-movers, all based solely on record purchases.
This week, thirty years ago, there were eight new entrys, ten climbers and no non-movers! And it was announced like this…

40. Snap – “Do You See The Light?”
Snap see the light for possibly one more week as their latest drops thirteen places, six weeks after it arrived in the top ten.

39. David Morales and The Bad Yard Club – “Gimme Luv”
Producer David Morales turned up last week as a performing artist along with The Bad Yard Club but seven days on and they go down two places.

38. OMD – “Dream Of Me”
OMD come back with a second helping from their latest and newest album, called “Liberator”. This is the follow up to “Stand Above Me”.

37. Soul Asylum – “Runaway Train”
American band Soul Asylum make some progress at least on their new entry from last week as the song climbs just one place.

36. US3 featuring Tukka Yoot – “Riddim”
Meanwhile the collaboration between US3 and Tukka Yoot goes one place the other way following their new entry from last week.

35. Green Jelly – “Three Litle Pigs”
Green Jelly stick in there with their three little pigs, seven weeks on the chart for them and they are ten places lower.

34. AC/DC – “Big Gun”
AC/DC’s big gun from the film ‘Last Action Hero’ went off last week with a new entry but it drops eleven places in its second.

33. Jon Secada – “Do You Really Want Me?”
Jon Secada gets a new entry this week, his fourth as a solo artist on the UK top 40 since he turned up last Summer with “Just Another Day”.

32. The Time Frequency – “The Power Zone” (EP)
The Time Frequency’s time is nearly up as their latest EP falls eleven places, this time with six weeks on the chart.

31. Usura – “Sweat”
And there’s no good news for Usura’s chart return, which falls two places in its second week and nothing to keep their minds open about another top ten hit.

30. Jesus Jones – “Zeroes And Ones”
The latest from Jesus Jones, however, does go up in its second week on the top 40, just one place takes it into the top thirty.

29. Urban Cookie Collective – “The Key, The Secret”
Doing much better than everyone this week are the Urban Cookie Collective with their debut single, which rises eleven places and that makes it the highest climber!

28. Blur – “Chemical World”
Blur also get a climber in their second week. This goes up six places to take the band back into the top thirty for the second time this year.

27. Evolution – “Everybody Dance”
Evolution continue to make everyone dance but out of the top twenty and down seven places with their biggest chart hit so far.

26. Utah Saints – “I Want You”
The Utah Saints are back with a new entry with the follow up to “Believe In Me”, which gives them their fourth straight top 40 song out of four releases.

25. Oui3 – “Break From The Old Routine”
Oui3 come back with a new entry and the follow on from “For What It’s Worth” and in doing so they chart higher than they did before!

24. East 17 – “West End Girls”
East 17 are down seven with their version of the Pet Shop Boys first number one hit from early 1986 as Chris and Neil exit the chart this week.

23. Inner Circle – “Sweat (A La La La La Long)”
Inner Circle slip four places and out of the top twenty this week as they continue to sweat it out, much better than Usura did.

22. Kenny Thomas – “Stay”
The brand new single from Kenny Thomas came onto the chart last week and he goes up four places in his second. Kenny is putting the finishing touches to his next album.

21. Deacon Blue – “Hang Your Head”
Deacon Blue get a new entry just outside the top twenty this week with the fourth single to come from their latest album, “Whatever You Say, Say Nothing”.

20. Jade – “I Wanna Love You”
Jade fall six places this week, remaining in the top twenty for a third week since they arrived with their second UK release.

19. The Levellers – “Belaruse”
Falling seven are The Levellers with their second single to chart top twenty. The band will release their next album next month.

18. Joey Lawrence – “Nothin’ My Love Can’t Fix”
US TV star Joey Lawrence can fix love but he can’t fix his UK chart high as his first single here drops back five places.

17. Lisa Stansfield – “In All The Right Places”
Taking a more leisurely decline is Lisa Stansfield as she goes down just two places with her song produced by John Barry and from the film ‘Indecent Proposal’.

16. Paul Weller – “Sunflower”
Paul Weller gets a big new entry this week. Following his debut album from last year, this is the lead track from his next, which is currently in post production.

15. Dannii Minogue – “This Is It”
One above him is a new entry from Dannii Minogue and she’s covered the old Melba Moore song from 1976 which gives her, her best UK chart position since 1991!

14. Taylor Dayne – “Can’t Get Enough Of Your Love”
This is Taylor Dayne‘s best UK chart position for five years as she takes her cover of Barry White’s old song up four places.

13. Ace Of Base – “All That She Wants”
The former number one from Ace Of Base leaves the top ten, where they’ve been for ten weeks now as the song falls three places.

12. Kim Wilde – “If I Can’t Have You”
Another lady enjoying her best chart position for some years is Kim Wilde and it’s with a cover version as well! Her recording of the Bee Gees song from 1977 climbs four places.

11. The Spin Doctors – “Two Princes”
While just slipping out of the top ten are The Spin Doctors, down two places with their two princes now in their tenth week on the chart.

10. Rod Stewart – “Have I Told You Lately?”
Rod Stewart spends a fourth week in the top ten with his live version of Van Morrison’s song, which is down four places also.

9. Michael Jackson – “Will You Be There?”
Coming back to the top ten is Michael Jackson with last week’s highest new entry, which climbs two places. This is the seventh UK top ten hit now from his “Dangerous” album.

8. UB40 – “I Can’t Help Falling In Love With You”
The former number one from UB40 from the film ‘Sliver’ goes down four places and out of the top five for the very first time.

7. Gloria Gaynor – “I Will Survive ’93”
While Gloria Gaynor also exits the top five with the updated version of her 1978 number one, which drops two places.

6. M People – “One Night In Heaven”
Having been non-movers for the past two weeks, the brand new song from M People gets going again and they go up one with their biggest hit yet.

5. 4 Non Blondes – “What’s Up?”
Overtaking them is last week’s highest climber from 4 Non Blondes as they go up three places and into the top five.

4. Chaka Demus and Pliers – “Tease Me”
Chaka Demus and Pliers have been teasing with this song for five weeks and it got them to number three, but week six finds them down one.

3. Haddaway – “What Is Love?”
Also down one is Haddaway with his debut single. He held the number two spot for the past two weeks but that’s all his love could manage.

2. Gabrielle – “Dreams”
And also down one is the number one debut from Gabrielle, after three weeks on top, it’s time for a change having seen her dreams come true.

1. Take That – “Pray”
So we have a new number one and it’s also this week’s highest new entry with congratulations to Take That as their brand new single goes straight in at the top to make this their very first chart topper! But can they keep it a second, or will someone else take it from them? There’ only one way to find out…
