WHERE ARE THEY NOW? Boy Krazy

Boy Krazy were meant to be the next big Stock Aitken Waterman ‘thing’. So what happened…?

American girl group Boy Krazy wwre formed in 1991 and consisted of wannabe pop stars Kimberly Blake, Johnna Lee Cummings (b.1971), Rue DeBona (b.1976), Josselyne Jones and Renee Veneziale, and with top British songwriters and producers Mike Stock, Matt Aitken and Pete Waterman to give them first hit, what could go wrong? The fivesome released their debut single, “That’s What Love Can Do”, in July 1991, however, the song didn’t find an audience and it stalled at No.86 in the UK initially. Shortly afterwards, Renee Veneziale left the group and they continued as a quartet. The remaining members spent time in the studio and with Matt Aitken leaving the PWL factory in 1991, it was in early 1992 that Boy Krazy returned with a follow up, “All You Have To Do”.

Alas, the song flopped in America and only made it to No.91 in the UK. Boy Krazy spent much of 1992 recording their debut album, with tracks that had originally been set aside for the next Kylie album, had she remained with PWL beyond 1992! The foursome returned in early 1993 with a remix of “That’s What Love Can Do” which made No.7 in Canada and broke out Stateside peaking at No.18. The re-release climbed a little bit higher in the UK and now made it to the dizzying heights of No.80! Their self-titled debut album came out in February 1993 but it failed to chart anywhere, despite one further single, “Good Times With Bad Boys” (May1993) getting to No.59 in America and No.32 in Canada. Boy Krazy called it a day and disbanded later in 1993 with only a re-issue of their album coming out in 2009 in expanded form.

Johnna Lee Cummings went on to forge a solo career getting a UK No.43 charting single with “Do What You Feel” in 1996, her highest yet, and released three further singles that year from her debut album “Pride”, before dropping out of the business altogether. Rue DeBona took up a professional wrestling career in the 00’s and married WWE commentator Josh Matthews in 2006. Kimberly Craig has largely took up family life away from the world of celebrity, while Josselyne Jones is now an agent and producer working behind the scenes. Renee Veneziale left Boy Krazy in 1991 and worked as a singer, actress and now is a yoga teacher. That’s what Boy Krazy did!
