pointer sisters dare me

COVER vs ORIGINAL: ‘Dare Me’/’Stupidisco’

The song, “Dare Me”, was originally recorded by The Pointer Sisters in 1985

Sam Lorber and Dave Innis wrote the song “Dare Me”, which was produced by Richard Perry, for The Pointer Sisters – June (1953-2006), Ruth (b.1946) and Anita (1948-2022). It was the lead single from their eleventh studio album “Contact” and was released in June 1985. The track was a top 40 hit around the world peaking at No.11 in America and No.17 in the UK. It topped the US Dance chart.

In 2004, Italian producer Vito Lucente (b.1971), under the name of Junior Jack, used the melody of the song and the chorus for his retitled track “Stupidisco”. Released in June, the new version became a big club hit across the world and topped the US Club chart. It peaked at No.26 in the UK, but three years later, Junior Jack reworked the song once again, this time titled “Dare Me (Stupidisco)”. On this occasion the song reached No.20 in the UK and topped the UK Dance chart.

But which version is the best? THE POINTER SISTERS’ original or JUNIOR JACK’s rework?
