Rick Astley promises he is “Never Gonna Stop”
Pop
36 years ago, Rick Astley promised that he was “Never Gonna Give You Up“, now in 2023 comes his renewed vow that he is “Never Gonna Stop” with the second track from his upcoming new studio album.
“Never Gonna Stop” follows hot on the heels of the well-received “Dippin’ My Feet“, and it sees Rick back in a Gospel environment, very much as he was in 1991 with “Cry For Help”.
Both songs are a taste of his brand new album, “Are We There Yet?“, which is out on 13th October and is his first body of new material since 2018’s “Beautiful Life“. As ever, Rick has poured heart and soul and a lot of guts into this new album, which he has largely recorded and produced himself at home so get ready for his most honest and personal record to date.
Rick is playing a number of festivals and dates this Summer as he gets ready for the album launch, including the Big Feastival in Oxford over the UK bank holiday weekend before he takes to the road proper from October in support of “Are We There Yet?” and then heading out to Europe in 2024. Rick is still being talked about after his show-stealing ‘gig’ at Glastonbury in June, where he performed solo and with The Woodsies, playing guitar, drums and anything else in sight!
It all goes to prove people still care about the former teaboy from Lancashire, who Stock Aitken Waterman made a star in 1987, only for Rick to give up music in the mid 1990’s and focus on family life and ‘retirement’. Rick decided he had had enough of retirement in 2016 and made a spectacular return to the top of the charts with his album “50” and it’s been an Indian Summer for him ever since. We think it would take a strong, strong man to turn his back completely on the music biz! Over to you Rick…
