Princess say I'm your number one

LOVE THE 80’s: ‘Say I’m Your Number One’ – Princess

Princess – “Say I’m Your Number One” (mix)

Pop ‘Princess’, err…Princess, made her debut in 1985 with her chart topping hoper “Say I’m Your Number One”. It didn’t and got as far as No.7 in the UK, becoming and remaining her biggest tune of all. Princess gained two further hits into 1986-87 with “After The Love Has Gone” and “I’ll Keep On Loving You”, and then went on holiday.

Her debut album was written and produced by Stock Aitken Waterman, pre Rick and Kylie days, and showed a real maturity in their sound, which is a shame that this was not carried forward. However, 1986 proved everyone wrong with their production of “Venus” for Bananarama and the rest, as they say, is history.

The now legendary PWL Records are releasing a new collection of souped-up classics with the forthcoming “PWL Extended Big Hits and Surprises” album, which kicks off with a Tony King ‘5 Years On 12″ Mix’ of Princess’ “Say I’m Your Number One”. The collection will be available on CD and vinyl sets and feature some never before heard mixes and other rare extended versions of many of their biggest and best known anthems.

‘Get ready'(!) for more to come before the album itself is out with multiple tracks promised from Kylie and Rick, along with rarer SAW productions from Sigue Sigue Sputnik, Boy Krazy and Yell’s Paul Varney as well as SAW’s own recording of “SS Paparazzi” from 1988.

For now though, it’s great to hear from Princess once more and with a different sound to her superb R&B style chart debut that should have at least got closer to that number one spot she wanted you to say she was…

“PWL Extended Big Hits and Surprises” is released on 17th November
