gala freed from desire

WHERE ARE THEY NOW? Gala

Will Gala forever be remembered for one song? I’m sure she would rather be “Freed From Desire”!

Italian singer Gala Rizzatto (b.1975) came from nowhere and launched her music career in 1996, topping the Italian singles chart with “Everyone Has Inside”. The track also went to number one in Spain while the follow up would give her global recognition and still does to this day. Her Dance anthem “Freed From Desire” would go top ten across the globe. peaking at No.2 in the UK and being certified Platinum in multiple countries across multiple continets. “Freed From Desire” would appear on her Gold certified debut album, “Come Into My Life”, which would produce two further homegrown chart toppers with “Let A Boy Cry” and the title track, noth of which made the UK top 40.

Gala produced a fifth Italian top five hit, “Suddenly”, from the album, before disappearing completely for some time as doors opened and she relocated to New York to work on the next stage of her career and with new producers to create a new sound. She returned later that year with the song “Faraway”, although this and future releases saw critial acclaim and attract the club scene, they were not commercial successes. Her next album, “Coming Into A Decade”, came a full ten years after her first, while 2009 saw her release the “Tough Love” EP and a deluxe version the following year. During this time, Gala popped up across The States making live performances at some major events such as the 2014 Winter Olympics and working the legendary producer Todd Terry on the EP “The Beautiful”.

Gala returned to Europe in 2017 and gave her first performances for over 20 years in Spain, Switzerland and her home country while 2018 saw her write and perform two songs for the soundtrack of the film ‘Favola’. Her most recent single release was “Parallel Lines” in 2021.
