The song, “Take Me Home”, was originally recorded by Cher in 1979
“Take Me Home” is a song written by Michele Aller and Bob Esty that served as the title track of Cher’s 1979 studio album. It was released as the lead single in January that year in North America and Canada and peaked at No.8 in the US and No.10 in Canada. The album itself was only successful in those territories, shifting over 500,000 copies in America.
In 2001, British singer Sophie Ellis-Bextor recorded the song, with some additional new lyrics by herself, for her debut album “Read My Lips”. It was released as the first single in August and would peak at No.2 in the UK as well as being a top 40 success across much of mainland Europe as well as making No.18 in New Zealand.
But which version is the best? CHER’s original or SOPHIE’s cover?
