38 years since the release of their huge global hit “Everybody Wants To Rule The World”, Tears For Fears continue to enjoy playing the song to a live audience, whether large or small, and it seems we welcome it.
Curt and Roland have spent 2023 touring their album “The Tipping Point” as well as celebrating 40 years since their breakout hit, “Mad World” in 1983. The duo released a new lyric video for the song as part of their “Rule The World” greatest hits package, and only this September they were at the Radio 2 concert in Leicester performing the song, the same year that “Everybody Wants To Rule The World” returned to the UK singles chart!
“Everybody Wants To Rule The World” was the second single to come from their 1985 album “Songs From The Big Chair” and when released in March, topped the singles charts in a number of territories including The United States. It remains one of those songs at home that is often thought of as a number one, but stopped short of the top, suffering two weeks at No.2 behind “We Are The World”.
The track was re-recorded and slightly altered in 1986 in support of Sport Aid, raising money for famine relief in Africa. “Everybody Wants To Run The World” returned the song to the top five in the UK.
