Lex Gibbon is going to take some of her “Own Advice”
Pop
A luminous voice who celebrates body positivity and self-worth, 18-year-old singer-songwriter Lex Gibbon is on a mission to show that the stereotypical pop star image is a thing of the past.
Between the addictive hooks of her previous singles “Dear Hater” and “Tattooed On Me” Lex has a personality that feels as if she’s everyone’s best friend in the neighbourhood.
Lex takes the next stride in her music career as she shares her new single “Own Advice”. It comes as the Herfordshire, UK born Lex prepares to release her upcoming debut EP. “I’ve Got Something To Say”. “Own Advice” wraps a message of big sisterly advice in an explosion of pure pop fun that will appeal to fans of Mimi Webb and Julia Michaels. As the title suggests, it’s a message born from Lex’s own experiences.
Like so many other young people, she admits to trying to avoid her own reflection and being overwhelmed by the shiny, mega-retouched beauty perfection across social media. The alternative is to instead look inwards to find those one-of-a-kind qualities that empower the vulnerable you to become the best you. Lex wrote “Own Advice” with Ben Cavanagh and the track’s producers, SAYITAGAIN.
Growing up in rural England, Lex was badly bullied growing up and battled to overcome the mental health issues that she subsequently struggled with. She fought back and became the first teen model to walk the London, Paris, New York and Los Angeles fashion weeks, while further fashion editorial and brand support has come from Harper’s Bazaar, Elle, Tatler, Gymshark, Next, St Tropez, River Island and Pepe Jeans.
At the same time, Lex also wanted an outlet to offer others and the support and guidance that she desperately needed growing up. Putting those experiences into song, her early releases have provided exactly that by tackling issues such as body positivity, social media haters and heartache as well as the uplifting reminder of ‘We’ll Be OK!’
