Gimme more: Five of Britney’s best…and it could be her last
So Britney Spears has vowed to “never return to music”. It’s been said before and in so many cases, that vow has been broken. It took ABBA nearly 40 years to record new material, but they did, so how long can/will Britney Spears hold off for? It’s been eight years since the 42 year old released her last studio album and although the singer enjoyed a comeback in 2022 with Elton John on their global top ten hit “Hold Me Closer”, Britney has really scaled down her musical activities since she burst onto the scene in 1998 as a fresh-faced sixteen year old.
If this is to be her last stand, then what of her legacy? Well, she’s sold over 150 million records, achieved one Diamond and seven other multi-Platinum certified albums. Worked with Elton and Madonna, and inspired a whole generation that followed her into the industry. Her public image may not always have been so pristine, but she never failed to ignite interest in her music, whether bubblegum Pop tunes or raunchy R&B grooves. Britney claims she was “Born to Make You Happy”, and indeed for a time at the end of the 1990’s and into the 2000’s, she did just that. Rarely out of the charts and out of the media.
But what are her most memorable songs? Here are our top five best of Britney, I’m sure you have your own favourites…
