The song, “I Feel The Earth Move”, was originally recorded by Carole King in 1970
Carole King (b.1942) wrote and recorded the song “I Feel The Earth Move” for her classic album “Tapestry” in 1970. It was released as the lead double A sided single with “It’s Too Late” in April 1971 and went to No.1 in the US and No.6 in the UK. The album would go on to become regarded as one of the greatest ever recorded and has sold over thirty million copies worldwide to date.
“I Feel The Earth Move” has been recorded by a handful of other artists since, but the best known version came in 1988 from Martika. The song featured on her self-titled debut album and was released as a single in the Autumn of 1989, this time making No.25 Stateside and No.7 in the UK and Australia. It was hampered from doing any better in America after it was deleted by Columbia Records following the earthquake that hit San Francisco that October.
But which version was the best? CAROLE’s original or MARTIKA’s cover?
