SEB is back in the top ten with her 2001 single “Murder On The Dancefloor” thanks to the new film ‘Saltburn’, and so far she’s returned to the same peak position she achieved with the song in early 2002.
The track was the follow up to her cover of Cher’s “Take Me Home” and was the second single to come from her debut album, “Read My Lips”. Sophie embarked on a tour of mainland Europe in 2002-03 to promote the album playing a number of key events and festivals to ensure maximum exposure and sales. The single went top ten in twelve countries outside the UK and also hit No.3 in Australia.
Fast forward to 2023 and Sophie performed the song at an exclusive BBC concert along with an orchestral backing much in the same way as she had done with her 2019 album “The Song Diaries“, ‘reimagining’ the track with a more contemporary sound and classical style.
With more than a million sales in the UK alone, “Murder On The Dancefloor” has become her biggest seller as well as being the second of her three consecutive top three hits on home soil during the period 2001-02. But can she make it to number one…?
