shakira whatever wherever

COVER vs ORIGINAL: ‘Whenever, Wherever’

The song, “Whenever Wherever”, was originally recorded by Shakira in 2001

Shakira Ripoll (b.1977), Tim Mitchell (b.1963) and THE Gloria Estefan wrote the song “Whenever, Wherever” for Shakira’s fifth studio album “Laundry Service” in 2001. The track was released as the lead single in August that year and became her break out hit, topping the charts across the globe and gaining Platinum certifications in almost every country it was released!

“Whenever, Wherever” was covered by Kriss Kross Amsterdam and The Boy Next Door with vocals by British artist Conor Maynard in 2018. The track made No.95 in the UK and No.18 on the US Electro chart. In 2024, a new version was recorded by Norwegian DJ Kygo, the latest in a line of notable covers from the producer with new vocals from American singer Ava Max, and with an amended title of “Whatever”.

But which version is the best? SHAKIRA’s original or KYGO/AVA’s new version?
