Grapevine. goes back to the 80’s for “Cross Your Mind”
Pop
The brand new project from Will Clucas (vocalist from Olympia Palace), Grapevine. aims to throw away the indie rock sound and Fender Strats to be replaced with glowing synths and a more throwback pop sound replicating sounds and styles from the 1980’s and early 2000’s.
With his debut “Swim For My Life” in particular managing to get 1,000 Spotify streams within the first week of release as well as instant radio play via BBC Introducing in the North East, it’s fair to say that Grapevine. could be leaving most listeners with a longing anticipation for a follow-up track.
All of this as well with very minimal marketing efforts as it was intended for word of mouth to push this project forward or with the hopes that people will find it on their own accord so that they found/heard it through the Grapevine. so to say? However with this new release, it felt only right to go all in with the marketing to make sure it goes off with a bang!
“Cross Your Mind” therefore aims to fill the void that may have been left by “Swim” with more of an angsty backdrop but still oozing with energy to make for an enjoyable listen nonetheless. If “Swim For My Life” was like the ‘Barbie’ (2023) of Grapevine.’s discography then “Cross Your Mind” would be more like ‘Drive’ (2011) in that same vein. It’s a track about laying everything on the line and not pulling any punches as the accompanying production would also suggest. As the casino/arcade imagery might also suggest there’s more stakes at play here.
To act as the polar opposite to the summery vibes on display in “Swim For My Life”, “Cross Your Mind” aims to be an energetic night-drive anthem drawing influences from killer 80’s acts such as Fleetwood Mac, Eurythmics and Tears for Fears as well as throwback pop acts such as The Weeknd. Listeners should hopefully get a good dose of nostalgia from this new Grapevine. era hopefully solidifying his mark on the NE music scene as things definitely aren’t slowing down yet.
Stay in touch with Grapevine.
