THEN & NOW: Pet Shop Boys 1984>2024

Back in 1984, former Smash Hits magazine writer Neil Tennant and architecture graduate Christopher Lowe formed the Pet Shop Boys and released their first single, “West End Girls“. It wasn’t a success and neither was the follow up. The ‘boys’ had to wait till the end of 1985 before a remixed version of their first 7” reached the top 40.

The new, improved “West End Girls” went all the way this time to the very top at the beginning of 1986 and it’s been like that ever since for the duo. Now, 40 years later, they are preparing to release a brand new album “Nonetheless”, and from it comes the lead single, “Loneliness”, a solid piece of PSB engineering that no lifetime fan could not like.

With their Dreamworld Greatest Hits Tour and the accompanying “Smash” album now behind them, the duo can focus their attention on the future and the next chapter in their enduring story. The album is Neil and Chris’ fifteenth studio album and comes four years after “Hotspot” and will feature an additional 4-track EP called “Furthermore”, which features new recordings of “Heart”, “Being Boring”, “Always On My Mind” and “It’s A Sin“.
