Eurovision Song Contest 2016: France – “J’ai Cherché” By Amir

Eurovision 2016 is almost upon us and as the countries begin to reveal their entries let’s start giving them the once-over.

As I will be attending the grand final this year it’s even more super exciting for me!

The France song is called “J’ai Cherché” and is performed by Amir.

ARTIST

Amir was internally chosen by France 2 to participate in the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest. The singer has a multicultural background: A Tunisian father, Moroccan-Spanish mother, born in France and lived in Israel. His warm and generous Mediterranean voice carries emotions from those different cultures.

Since Amir was a child, he has dreamt of performing on stage and always had the ambition to become an artist. After being a dental surgeon, Amir tried his luck in the world of music and started a professional singing career.

In 2013 Amir took part in the talent TV music show The Voice where he got recognition from all four judges in the “blind auditions”. The audience also voted for Amir and brought him to the final. At the same time, Amir started to write songs. His album Au coeur de moi includes themes that the singer cherishes, his spirituality, his idealism and musical influences.

J’ai cherché is Amir’s first single. With his music, Amir wants his fans to hear the message that came from far away, but also from nearby to guide us to ourselves, to make us joyful, just for a moment which becomes eternity.

SONG

The song is in French with an English chorus. Amir wanted to write and send a message in a language that everyone can understand.

J’ai cherché is a story about the change that music brought to his life. It is also about true love, the one and only.

OPINION

It’s performed in his own language so that’s always a hit with me. It’s upbeat, there’s no fancy visuals, it’s a catchy tune delivered really well! Oh – and I love the backing dancers! It looks like a tribute to Celine Dion’s “business at the top, party at the bottom” outfit.

PREDICTION

France are guaranteed a place in the final but I think this could do very well for them. Their best entry in a long time and possible top 5 finish!

LYRICS

“J’AI CHERCHÉ

J’ai cherché

un sens à mon existence

J’y ai laissé mon innocence

J’ai fini le coeur sans défense

J’ai cherché

L’amour et la reconnaissance

J’ai payé

Le prix du silence

Je me blesse et je recommence

Tu m’as

Comme donné l’envie d’être moi

Donné un sens à mes pourquoi

Tu as tué la peur

Qui dormait là

Qui dormait là

Dans mes bras

You

You’re the one that’s making me strong

I’ll be looking looking for

You

Like the melody of my song

You

You’re the one that’s making me strong

I’ll be looking looking for

You

Like the melody of my song

You

You’re the one that’s making me strong

I’ll be looking looking for

You

Like the melody of my song

You

You’re the one that’s making me strong

I’ll be looking looking for

You

Like the melody of my song

Au gré de nos blessures

Et de nos désinvoltures

C’est quand on n’y croit plus du tout

Qu’on trouve un paradis perdu

En nous

Oh you you you you

You

You’re the one that’s making me strong

I’ll be looking looking for

You

Like the melody of my song

Like the melody of my song

You

You’re the one that’s making me strong

I’ll be looking looking for

You

Like the melody of my song

Like the melody of my song

You’re the one that’s making me strong

I’ll be looking looking for

giving you love with my song

giving you love with my song”
