EUROVISION SONG CONTEST 2018: UNITED KINGDOM - 'Storm' By SuRie

Eurovision 2018 – United Kingdom

The United Kingdom song is called ‘Storm and performed by SuRie.

ARTIST

SuRie is an actress and singer who is no stranger to the Eurovision Song Contest, appearing as a backing singer for Loïc Nottet in 2015 and Blanche at Eurovision 2017.

With classical roots in piano, voice and oboe, SuRie’s musical career started early as a child soloist, performing for the likes of HRH Prince Charles in iconic British venues such as The Royal Albert Hall and St. Paul’s Cathedral and at venues all around the world, including St. Mark’s Basilica in Venice.

A graduate of The Royal Academy of Music, she started writing songs when she was just 12 years old. SuRie has held residencies in Jazz lounges throughout London and performed backing vocals for artists like Chris Martin and Will Young.

SONG

SuRie’s song Storm starts as a piano lead ballad and builds into a pop song with a dance beat.

She describes the song as ‘a smash’ and says it is an ‘anthemic, soulful pop party.’

Although she’s a seasoned song writer herself, this track is written by Nicole Blair, Gil Lewis and Sean Hargreaves.

OPINION

I think this was the best option for the UK and with a little bit more work it could be even better. It has a bit of an Avicii vibe to it and I can defo see my self dancing along to this one.

PREDICTION

It might do reasonably well, I don’t think it will do as well as last year. More importantly it can’t win. Come on, if it wins that means that next year the final will be the UK and I have become accustomed to getting an exciting European city to visit each year! good luck SuRie – do us proud!

LYRICS

Hey, hey brother
Do you remember when we were kids with no fear?
Hey, hey sister
Do you believe in the things we dreamt we’d discover?

I still have faith
I still believe in chasing rainbows

Storms don’t last forever, forever, remember
We can hold our hands together
Through this storm, through this storm
Storms don’t last forever, forever, remember
We can hold our hands together
Through this storm, through this storm

Hey, hey mother
Am I making you proud or could I do better?
Hey, hey father
There’s weight on my shoulders but it’s not over

I still have faith
I still believe in chasing rainbows

Storms don’t last forever, forever, remember
We can hold our hands together
Through this storm, through this storm
Storms don’t last forever, forever, remember
We can hold our hands together
Through this storm, through this storm

Spread your love, give all you got
Hold your head up, don’t give up, no no
Hey, hey brother, don’t give up, oh woah woah

Storms don’t last forever, forever, remember
We can hold our hands together
Through this storm, through this storm

Spread your love, give all you got
Hold your head up, don’t give up, no no
Spread your love, give all you got
Hold your head up, through this storm
