TRIVIA: Longest Time For An Artist To Get To Number One

Which artist took the longest time to get to Number One? It was Tony Christie with “(Is This The Way To) Amarillo”.

It took 34 Years, 10 Months, and 2 Days to be exact!

His single from November 1971, “(Is This The Way To) Amarillo” was used in 2005 by comedian Peter Kaye in various TV performances, ultimately leading to a re-release in aid of Comic Relief.

That catapulted the track back into the chart – at number one – on  26th March 2005.
