Introducing Sam Gifford and The Innocent and their great new debut single “What You Want”
by Christopher Smith
London based Five piece alternative rock band Sam Gifford and The Innocent have released their debut single “What You Want“.
Hailing from the landscape of rural towns and villages that make up North Hertfordshire, singer, songwriter and front man Sam Gifford played drums in several local bands, performing multiple gigs and festivals and first went into the recording studio at just age thirteen.
However, it is since making the short journey south into the vibrant chaotic melting pot of London that he brought together his band The Innocent in February 2017 and found his true calling as a front man. Supporting Sam, who as well as leading the band plays guitar – not to mention a mean tambourine – The Innocent features Jamie Steenbergen (drums/percussion), Gio Metaxas (guitar), Stephen Clift (bass), and Hannes Porombka (guitar).
Influences include John Mayer, Switchfoot, Bruce Springsteen and Mumford and Sons but Sam creates unique music. Instantly recognisable, the songs blend catchy, radio friendly hooks and powerful guitars fleshed out with rich backing vocal harmonies to deliver a full, vibrant and edgy sound. Sam’s songs offer a lyrical depth and maturity that is at odds with his youth and set him apart from many of his peers. His songs talk of finding hope, courage, beauty and redemption in the midst of the struggle of everyday life, and Sam sings with an authentic and passionate voice which connects with a wide audience.
A ‘band of brothers’ by day, on stage their powerful and exuberant performances move seamlessly from a tightly rehearsed set to a relaxed spontaneity with the boys and the crowd feeding off each other’s energy.
The band are continuing to play shows across the country. Keep up to date with venues and gigs by clicking here.
