Did you have a Summertime love with boys? Remember Sabrina? How could you forget! But where is she now?
Sabrina Salerno (born 1968) was the busty model-cum-singer who certainly got herself known in the late 1980’s with her raunchy song “Boys” and it’s sexy video featuring herself in a swimming pool, jumping around a lot and wearing an ill fitting bikini top! Ah now you remember her! SABRINA!
Sabrina won a beauty contest in Italy at the age of 16 prior to releasing her single “Sexy Girl” two years later, which reached No.19 in Italy. The following year she released her signature tune “Boys (Summertime Love)” that made the top three all across Europe and No.1 in Switzerland and France. Her follow up “Hot Girl” made No.16 in Italy as well as charting high in most other central European countries.
It wouldn’t be until 1988 that “Boys” saw success away from mainland Europe, reaching No.3 in the UK in June and No.11 in Australia. For her follow up, she came to London and the now famous and successful PWL Studios of Stock Aitken Waterman to record “All Of Me”, which was released in September 1988 and reached No.25 in the UK, No.12 in Italy and made the top ten in Belgium, Finland and The Netherlands.
She had released her self-titled debut album in 1987 that had limited success in Australia and France and its follow up “Super Sabrina” the following year which made No.9 in Finland and did very little else! Her biggest success in Italy came with the single “My Chico” which topped the chart there and made No.3 in Finland. She also topped the chart in Finland with “Like A Yo-Yo” which made No.72 in the UK and No.13 in Italy.
Her other hits include “Gringo” (1989) No.10 Italy, No.9 Finland and “Yeah Yeah” (1990) No.21 Italy. She continued to record from the early 90’s but with very limited success. In 2010 she teamed up with another 80’s pin up-turned pop star Samantha Fox. The pair recorded their version of Blondie’s classic “Call Me” and took it to No.4 in Italy. In 2017 she recorded “I Love Rock ‘n’ Roll” which had previously been a hit for The Arrows, Joan Jett and Britney Spears to name but a few!
