He’s Going The Distance!

By Steve McSteveface

Following the viral success of his self-released song ‘New America’ (100K+ streams) and two well received releases ‘Wade In The Water’ and ‘Clear Air Turbulence’ gaining support from Clash, It’s All Indie, Various Small Flames, Indie Folx, Indie Folk Central and radio plays from BBC Introducing and Amazing Radio, Alex Bayly returns with a driving but introspective single ‘Distance’.

A modern atmospheric twist on alternative-folk, the track is full of ambient electric guitars and synths complementing his ethereal vocal performance. The song nods to experimental and progressive artists past and present such as Nick Drake and Benjamin Francis Leftwich.

Lyrically the song muses over the effects of the human race on the world we occupy and each other. The chorus describes a haunting filmic moment as someone, perhaps a friend/lover, recognises the levity of the moment,

‘You look in the distance and you say, we can’t have it any other way.’

Alex released his debut EP ‘New America’ in 2017 —a melancholic, heartfelt exposure of his post-coming of age journey to recognition.

Like an encouraging nod from the boss, gratifying reviews embraced his unapologetic sincerity and respectful blend of influences.
