COVER vs ORIGINAL: 'Ashes To Ashes'

COVER vs ORIGINAL: ‘Ashes To Ashes’

Is Major Tom Still A Junkie?

By Steve McSteveface

‘Ashes to Ashes’ is a song written and recorded by David Bowie. It was the lead single from his 1980 album ‘Scary Monsters (And Super Creeps)’ and became Bowie’s second UK number one single.

It is also known for its innovative video, directed by Bowie and David Mallet, which at the time was the most expensive music video ever made.

Trevor Horn is an English bassist, singer, songwriter, music producer, and recording studio and label owner. He is best known for his production work since the 1980s and, before that, being one half of the new wave band The Buggles.

Horn’s new album, ‘Trevor Horn Reimagines the Eighties’, will be released in February 2019. One of the songs on the album is a cover of ‘Ashes To Ashes’ and features vocals by Seal.

What do you think? Is this a good ‘reimagine’ or not?
