WHERE ARE THEY NOW? Booty Luv

There will be “Some Kinda Rush” if you “Boogie 2nite” with Booty Luv! So what happened?

Singers Cherise Roberts and Nadia Shepherd joined the R&B quartet Big Brovaz in 2001, the group had 4 UK top ten hits as well as entry’s across Europe and Australia. Their debut hit “Nu Flow” remains their biggest, as is their debut album of the same name which went Platinum in the UK. But after five years both Nadia and Cherise left the group and were picked up by Hed Kandi records as a duo.

And so Booty Luv was born. The girls recorded American singer Tweet’s 2002 “Boogie 2nite” and was only used in clubs and on Hed Kandi’s own mix CD’s, but in December that year, it was decided to release the song commercially and it worked as the single burst into the top ten around the globe across three continents. Obviously on to something, they followed this with a cover of a minor Luther Vandross hit “Shine” in early 2007, and again it became a big top ten hit.

For their next single, the girls too on US R&B group Lucy Pearl’s 2000 single “Don’t Mess With My Man”, which had peaked at No.41 in America and No.20 in the UK. Booty Luv took their version to No.11 in the UK and No.1 on the dance chart. The single was released the week before their debut album “Boogie 2nite” hit records stores everywhere and would eventually earn a Silver certification in the UK, having sold over 70,000 copies there to date.

Two further singles came from the album and both of them original compositions, “Some Kinda Rush” at the end of 2007 reaching No.19 in the UK, but breaking the top ten in The Netherlands, and “Dance, Dance” in early 2008.

Nadia and Cherise returned in 2009 with a new single “Say It” which gave them their fifth UK top twenty hit and was due to be the lead single from their second album to be titled “Say It Again” but work never progressed beyond the initial single.

After a break of two years, and a name change to just ‘Cherise and Nadia’, the girls returned in May 2012 with a new promo single “This Night” to coincide with their tour of Australia. They released their first single proper at the end of the year, “Black Widow”, which failed to chart. In early 2013 the girls returned to a reformed Big Brovaz for a reunion tour and continued to perform with the group into 2018.
