What Is Behind The Lyrics?

By Steve McSteveface

Spotify stopped the option of having the lyrics on screen while songs were playing. To be honest – I’m not too fussed about that even though there are workarounds using SoundHound.

What they have introduced instead, in my opinion, is much better. For Spotify on mobile, they have teamed up with Genius to allow you to see the lyrics of many of your favorite tracks as they’re sung (or rapped, or screamed), but the bonus here for me is getting the story BEHIND they lyrics.

I use this feature on my iPhone and it’s also available for Android. I can’t find any information about if it will be released for the desktop client.

It doesn’t have it for every song but basically all you have to do is…

1. Start playing music

2. Tap the Now Playing bar at the bottom of the screen

3. See the song’s lyrics and their story

4. Laugh at yourself when you realise you have been singing the wrong lyrics this whole time!

Here are a few screenshots of ‘Swish Swish’ by Katy Perry.

It would be rude not to share this song now, wouldn’t it?

Do I use it all the time? Well, no not really but I do use it every time I am travelling (which is a lot).

There’s nothing better than chilling out on a boring flight or train ride with a nice glass of wine, listening to your favourite songs and learning the back story to the words.
