What next for this year’s Eurovision finalists?
Poor old Spain hasn’t done very well at all in Eurovision for some years now, in fact it hasn’t had a win since 1969 or a top ten placing since “Dancing In The Rain” in 2014. This year’s hope was 23 year old singer Miki Núñez aka Miki, who made his bid for stardom in 2018 in the Spanish reality show Operación Triunfo, where he finished sixth in the final. All of Miki’s performances were successfully released with “El ataque de las chicas cocodrilo” (“Attack Of The Crocodile Girls”) and “Una Lluna A L’Aigua” (“A Moon In The Water”) reaching the Spanish singles chart.
He was subsequently selected by the Spanish jury to represent the country at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest with the song “La Venda” (“The Blindfold”), which was the last song performed on stage. Miki would finish twenty second with 54 points, 53 coming from the tele vote, although this was slightly better than 2018 when Spain came twenty third and 2017 when it finished last with “Do It For Your Lover” polling just five points! “La venda” has, however, had success on singles chart where it has currently peaked at No.13.
Miki has followed this up with “Nadie se salva” (“No One Can Save You”), a duet with Natalia Lacunza, and no doubt with his TV success, he will become a fixture in Spanish music circles for some time to come.
