Chela shares “Heart O’ Hearts”.
Set on capturing hearts, Australian-Filipino synth-pop goddess Chela returns with her new single “Heart O’ Hearts” and announces a string of Australian tour dates. Chela’s second release on Goldroom an R.A.C’s LA label Minerva Music, “Heart O’ Hearts” premiered last night on triple j’s Home & Hosed and is synth-pop at is glittering best.
Opening with a driving drum-beat and an infectious tropical groove, Chela’s honest vocals build to the chorus, where she exclaims ‘Beat hard with the best that you have, before I dare to give you up’. Chela explains that the track was inspired by inner conflict resolution, stating that it’s about the good vs. the evil, the positive voice in one ear reckoning with the negative on the other side. “It’s a mantra for quieting down the dark side of yourself”.
Arriving with a dramatic accompanying video, premiered via V Magazine and shot in LA, the visual accompaniment was directed, choreographed and styled by Chela and features her and her friend Sierra Katina ‘cutting sick’ on an outdoor dance-floor. The eclectic choreography portrays a visual battle of good and evil twins while showcasing the intangible connection between Chela and her doppelganger.
“Heart O’ Hearts” production was a labour of love that spanned continents, produced in Melbourne with friend and collaborator Le Bruc before being in Hollywood by Andrew Lappin (St. Lucia, Born Rivals). Chris Zane (Passion Pit, Holy Ghost!) lent his mastering expertise in Brixton (UK) before Sameer Sengupta (Smashing Pumpkins, London Grammar) polished it off in LA. Cultivating a career as a jet-setting creative, Chela has cemented her rightful spot as alt-pop’s tangerine haired princess, with collaboration credits alongside the likes of Banoffee, Paces, Goldroom and Clubfeet and festival performances at SXSW and Coachella. Her glassy pop infused catalogue recently surpassed 20 million streams and climbing.
“Heart O’ Hearts” is Chela’s second release from her forthcoming EP and follows the release of “Losing Belief”. The track was met with rave reviews from FADER, The Line of Best Fit, Fashion Journal and NPR, played on triple j Unearthed and triple j and was added to FBi rotation. Chela returns to Australia in August to perform a string of shows. Kicking off at The Beresford Music and Booze in Sydney at the end of August, she then heads to Melbourne’s Grace Darling in September. Now based in LA, these shows give Australian audiences a rare opportunity to witness Chela’s unrivaled creativity, dynamic aesthetic and pop prowess in the flesh.
