EVERY UK NUMBER ONE SONG: ‘Well I Ask You’ – Eden Kane

What was the number one song in the UK on 3rd August 1961?

By Hayley Beasley Dye

English singer, Eden Kane, was number one for 1 week with Well I Ask You.

Well, Eden is very indignant in this song. I’m surprised he didn’t add the lyric “how very dare you” into it. I quite like the intro and instrumental in the middle of the song. It has a very 60s vibe to it. The actual melody is a catchy one, but not a song that really stands out for me.

Lyrics

Well I ask ya
What a way to treat a guy
What a way to cheat and lie
Because I wanted you
Well I ask ya
Did you have to bring me down
Did you have to go to town
And smash my world in two
Don’t think you’re getting away with it
You’re gonna pay me some how
You cruelly wrecked my life
But oh you want me now
Baby just you ask me
Get down on your knees and try
I won’t break till I see you cry
Like me when I ask you
Alright
Don’t think you’re getting away with it
You’re gonna pay me some how
You cruelly wrecked my life
But oh you want me now
Just you ask me
Get down on your knees and try
I won’t break till I see you cry
Like me when I ask you
Well I ask ya
Well I ask ya
Well I ask ya
