EVERY UK NUMBER ONE SONG: ‘Moon River’ – Danny Williams

What was the number one song in the UK on 28th December 1961?

By Hayley Beasley Dye

British singer, Danny Williams was number one for 2 weeks with Moon River.

Moon River in my humble opinion is one of the most beautiful songs ever written. This version of Danny’s is just lovely. It is simple and captivating, with a beautiful delicacy to it. Along with Blue Moon, this is my favourite song of 1961. Right, now on to 1962, gang.

Lyrics

Moon river, wider than a mile
I’m crossing you in style some day
Oh, dream maker, you heart breaker
Wherever you’re going, I’m going your way
Two drifters, off to see the world
There’s such a lot of world to see
We’re after the same rainbow’s end
Waiting ’round the bend
My Huckleberry friend
Moon river and me
We’re after the same rainbow’s end
Waiting ’round the bend
My huckleberry friend
Moon river, and me
