Kool And The gang

COVER vs ORIGINAL: ‘Celebration’

The song “Celebration” was originally recorded by Kool and The Gang in 1980.

Feel good anthem “Celebration” was written by Ron Bell, Charles Smith, James Taylor and Robert Bell, members of the 70’s group Kool and The Gang and released as a single in November 1980. One of the great party tunes of all time and a perennial favourite, “Celebration” was a huge hit, topping the US singles chart and reaching the top ten across most of the rest of the world, selling more than three million copies to date.

“Celebration” was recorded by Kylie Minogue in 1991 for her fourth studio album “Let’s Get To It“, but was dropped from the tracklisting at the last minute. It was, however, included on her 1992 “Greatest Hits” album and released in November that year as her final single with record company PWL, reaching No.20 in the UK and No.21 in Australia. Although the song was a minor hit, the “Greatest Hits” album went on to sell more than two million copies.

But which version is the best? KOOL AND THE GANG’s original or KYLIE’s cover?
