Endless Love 1981

COVER vs ORIGINAL: ‘Endless Love’

The song “Endless Love” was originally recorded by Diana Ross and Lionel Richie in 1981

“Endless Love” was written by and co-performed by Lionel Richie (b.1949) together with Diana Ross (b.1944) in 1981 for the film of the same name. The song topped the US singles chart selling over a million copies and would also go to number one in Australia, Canada and South Africa, as well as attaining a top ten placing in over twenty other countries worldwide.

In 1994, the duet was re-recorded by Luther Vandross (1951-2005) and Mariah Carey (b.1970) for Luther’s album “Songs”. This version peaked at No.7 in America while reaching No.3 in the UK, four places higher than the original, together with a top ten placing, again, in more than twenty countries worldwide.

But which one is the best? LIONEL and DIANA’s original or LUTHER and MARIAH’s cover?
