EVERY UK NUMBER ONE SONG: ‘Tired of Waiting For You’ – The Kinks

What was the number one song in the UK on 18th February 1965?

The Kinks are back and this time with Tired of Waiting For You, which was number one for 1 week.

Tired of Waiting For You marks a new melodic direction for The Kinks (even though it was actually written before All Day and All of the Night). It’s not my favourite of theirs, but I do enjoy how the reflective nature of the lyrics are echoed within the sound of the song. Ray sounds perfectly fed up both lyrically and musically.

Lyrics

So tired
Tired of waiting
Tired of waiting for you
So tired
Tired of waiting
Tired of waiting for you
I was a lonely soul
I had nobody till I met you
But you keep a-me waiting
All of the time
What can I do?
It’s your life
And you can do what you want
Do what you like
But please don’t keep a-me waiting
Please don’t keep a-me waiting
‘Cause I’m so tired
Tired of waiting
Tired of waiting for you
So tired
Tired of waiting
Tired of waiting for you
I was a lonely soul
I had nobody till I met you
But you keep a-me waiting
All of the time
What can I do?
It’s your life
And you can do what you want
Do what you like
But please don’t keep a-me waiting
Please don’t keep a-me waiting
‘Cause I’m so tired
Tired of waiting
Tired of waiting for you
So tired
Tired of waiting
Tired of waiting for you
For you
For you
